Tiny Tim Ive Got the Aids Again

  1. Ricardo Salinas

Many of the songs that Tiny Tim sang were good enough to receive a comeback! Imagine this song covered by Neil Young, for example.

  2. Rabid Leroy Channel Salad

This song is so dreamlike I actually cried. My heart, I repeat, my heart... 😭

  3. Sarah Michelle

This is one of my favorite songs. The lyrics are so beautiful and pure.
    "Stars in the sky
Make my wish come true before the night has flown
    So let the music play
As long as there's a song to sing
And I will stay younger than spring" <3

Tim was a genius with an all-consuming passion for the grand American music of the distant past. Of course, he played up his eccentric silliness because otherwise we he never would have accomplished bringing such music to another place and time. And certainly he was exploited. But underneath the "joke" and weirdness was a very talented, sincere and sensitive soul. He wasn't afraid to be different - VERY different, standing out amongst all of the freaks and hippies with music from another time. Yes, he was hilarious, but he was so much more than that! What a great subject for a movie he would be - if only the screenplay would do him justice.

  5. Donna Cognac

This is an amazing recording that I used to have on a cassette someone made for me. I wish I still had it. The whole album was beyond special. If I remember correctly, this album was done with the London Philharmonic orchestra. God Bless You Tiny Tim.

  6. Nikolaii2571

Contrasting Tiny Tim with other entertainers who sang "This Is All I Ask" such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Robert Goulet, and others, I favored Tiny Tim because the way he sings it is heartfelt and more "magical" than the rest.  Good job, Tiny. I miss you.

  7. Eliezer Pennywhistler

I assume you realize that this is from the LP and not from the Tonight Show.

  8. allenmore anes

I associate a tight, fast vibrato with early century singers that Mr.T emulated. I was surprised that the Tonight Show producers alllowed him to sing this with orchestra, as most tv shows I saw with him were more novelty presentations than serious music with orchestral arrangements. As per your comment, I'm not sure what a 1920's vibratio is either, but I think you could get about anything in the speak-easies.

  9. John LaStrada

Tiny Tim had a few tracks played serious & they were quite good. He recorded a Paul Williams-Biff Rose composition even David Bowie covered: "Fill Your Heart."
It was produced by hotshot producer Richard Perry & had a great arrangement with full orchestra. Tim starts it off vaudeville style but once he starts singing its straight. His voice in full display & he hits incredibly high notes. Tiny Tim should have put a serious LP out with no novelty. He had the talent. This one surprised me.

    RIP, you are not forgotten

  11. Eliezer Pennywhistler

If anything, this is a version of Nat "King" Cole's style of this song (from "The Very Thought Of You", released in 1958 by Capitol Records).

  12. Eliezer Pennywhistler

What is a "twenties-style" vibrato? You mean like Helen Morgan? Give three examples. And explain how this pure early-1960s arrangement utilizes a 1920's vibratio (whatever that is).

  13. Eliezer Pennywhistler

Why wouldn't he be allowed to sing a song? Germany was defeated, you know.

Richard Perry was the arranger ... which you could have found out on the internet in ten seconds.

  14. Eliezer Pennywhistler

"The moron(s) managing TT could have changed course and marketed him as a serious talent (as evidenced here) but went for laughs instead."

You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. Tim spent more than a decade trying to make it as a "serious talent" ... and failed miserably.

    Michael 0.

The question is why he failed commercially. He IS a serious talent, but because of his falsetto and what I think is autism, he was difficult to market. If you now look at what critics say, they almost all acknowledge him being a great historian of American popular music from the late 1800's forward. I am not familiar with who marketed him, but as an artist and American Icon, he is a huge success. Time has shown that, and in this case, the critics are correct.

  15. Don Darnell

This man was a gift to the endearing emotional soul in all of us! Truly a GIFT! I have this album on vinyl! Boughtit in 1968! Will never part from it!

  16. John Ehrhart

It seems such a shame that Mr.Tim didn't take a shot at a mainstream album. And few have any idea what he could do. Did you know him, or were you connected to television in any way ? I appreciate your knowledge of this.

  17. John Ehrhart

    Thanks ! How very interesting.

    John

"This Is All I Ask" (by Gordon Jenkins) was originally released by Frank Sinatra in 1965. The Tonight Show brought in a string section and used the album cut's (GBTT) arrangement (Artie Butler) to replicate Tim's recording. On mulitple appearances on Carson, Tim had only performed 'novelty' songs for laughs, until this. I actually wrote Carson producer Fred DeCordova and ask them to re-broadcast it on an anniversary show - they never did. That live performance now may be lost forever.

  19. John Ehrhart

This is fascinating history. Do you know any more details about how Mr.Tim was allowed to sing this, and who arranged it, etc. Thanks

  20. John Ehrhart

I can't get away from this. I'm back for more. I love it !

  21. John Ehrhart

Even with the twenties style vibrato, you can't turn this off. It's beautiful.

  22. John Ehrhart

Beautiful. And what if he had dropped the twenties style vibrato. He has dead-on pitch, phrasing, a great voice, and the fascination with his character is still there. TT was a talented entertainer.

  23. TCZOO1

The Tonight Show added a full string section to the band and TT performed this live, stunning the audience. An equally stunned Johnny Carson said to TT "I think you surprised all of us" to which the audience roared. They never aired the song again on "best of" or anniversary shows, opting to show TT's humiliating wedding to his then ex-wife turned stripper. The moron(s) managing TT could have changed course and marketed him as a serious talent (as evidenced here) but went for laughs instead.

  24. ELVIS4221

GO TO POET HEAVEN "TT", WHERE YOU BELONG AND GET YOUR CROWN.
YOU MADE US LAUGH AND CRY.
THANKS FOR PASSING THROUGH OUR LIVES IF ONLY FOR A SHORT WHILE.

  25. Glenn Wheatcroft

This is beautiful song. Great upload I've been waiting for.
